Three years ago, Nicki Minaj emerged as a mainstream star. Initially a big fan of Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj would eventually sign with Young Money. Being paired with Lil Wayne and Drake turned out to be a wise gamble, as Young Money rose to the top of the game with the big three. Each artist showed they could be team players and stars in their own right.

Nicki Minaj was important for several reasons, as she was one of the first new artists from New York City making noise. However, Nicki Minaj was pressured to do well, as she was the highest-profile female artist since Remy Ma, formerly of Terror Squad. The success of Nicki Minaj earned her a rival in Lil’ Kim, but she did not let it get her down.

Instead, Nicki Minaj became one of the biggest stars in the world. Coming with worldwide stardom is the backlash, which Nicki Minaj is currently suffering. The Queens femcee faced much cricisim over her sophomore album,Roman Reloaded. Released earlier this year, Nicki Minaj announced her latest album, a remix album,The ReUp, which she revealed, via Twitter, would come on November 19.

“The Boys,” featuring Cassie, is the first single off the new Nicki Minaj project.
