Early this year, Houston received a minor boost with the emergence of Kirko Bangz and Marcus Manchild. Slim Thug has remained as one constant since the Houston hip hop boom of 2005. This explosion introduced the world to Swisha House Records. At the time branded as a big three, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, and Slim Thug burst onto the hip hop scene.

Slim Thug proved to have the business acumen to properly direct his career. Once he was signed by a major label, Slim Thug established his own label, Boss Hogg Outlawz, and he secured them a distribution deal with Koch Records (eOne Music). When Slim Thug saw his major label deal with Interscope Records flounder, he would leave and join his own label.

Making smart moves has kept Slim Thug ahead of the curve. Before mixtapes truly became popular, Slim Thug kept them going. It was only a matter of time before he heated things back up. With his album with Z-Ro in the works, Slim Thug spoke to Montreality and he revealed a lot about the project, mainly the title, A King and a Boss.
