Jay-Z talks President Obama and politics with MTV News [VIDEO]

Each rise to stardom and success is different. In hip hop, few stories have been told more than that of Jay-Z. Growing up in the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn, Jay-Z’s father left him at a young age, leaving him and his siblings alone with their mother. Being abandoned by his father would motivate Jay-Z to do what he did.

Jay-Z showed the rap world they did not need the support of a major record label to find success as an artist. Founding Roc-A-Fella Records with Damon Dash, Jay-Z would eventually form a long-lasting business relationship with Def Jam. One of the first rappers to take over a major company, the doors were opened by Jay-Z.

Quite easily, Jay-Z proved he could run the rap game, literally. However, him playing a pivotal role in a political election was highly unlikely. Much like rappers in the past, Jay-Z would endorse the Democratic candidate. Barack Obama immediately gained the support of most of hip hop and Jay-Z began a strong campaign, which he talked about with MTV News, but he turned down the notion of running for politics, himself.
