Album Review: Lupe Fiasco – “Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1”

Using entertainment as his platform, Lupe Fiasco uses his music to educate and inform his young audience. Focused on spreading his message, Lupe Fiasco often butts heads with those closest to him. This was the case from 2007 until 2011 when he battled Atlantic Records, who forced him to change.

Finally securing a rleease date for Lasers, Lupe Fiasco was forced to abandon his trademark style to go pop. Lupe Fiasco promised his next album, Food & Liquor II, would be his best work yet, a return to himself. During the spring of 2012, Lupe Fiasco released the promo single from Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1.

Yesterday, following much discussion, the entire album was finally released. A drastic turn from most of the other 2012 albums, Food & Liquor II was a breath of fresh air. In a year full of “stuntin,” Lupe Fiasco opened up about the harsh realities of the world. The singles, unlike the singles released of late, are not a dramatic turn from the album, instead they are the perfect draw. Still, the standout singles from the album include his “Bitch Bad” single.

As the year of 2012 transitions into its final stage and the election nears, Lupe Fiasco provides the perfect music for the season.
