A lot of hard work has come for French Montana to land the position he currently holds as the biggest artist on Bad Boy Records. Five years ago, French Montana and his crew, the Coke Boys, began a mixtape run, which intensified each year. Soon, the Coke Boys rose to become the biggest crew in New York hip hop.

With the elevated status of the Coke Boys, French Montana would help return New York City to the forefront of hip hop. Several artists were touted as next up in New York City, but it was French Montana who lived up to the challenge. Leaving the mixtape scene, French Montana must have passed Coke Boy Brock the mixtape reigns.

The first official single from French Montana is “Pop That,” which features Rick Ross, Drake, and Lil Wayne. “Pop That” has done fairly well, holding fans over until Excuse My French is finally completed. Last week, French Montana was in Los Angeles, in town for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, while there, he held a “Pop That” contest.
