Mixtape of the Summer: Lloyd Banks – “V6: The Gift”

The stakes were high for Lloyd Banks, as he was forced to deliver or sit down. Since the release of his last album, Lloyd Banks was virtually forgotten. However, when 50 Cent was questioned about Lloyd Banks, he immediately returned to the spotlight. 50 Cent revealed he had not talked to Lloyd Banks in months and that he lacked ambition.

Months prior, Lloyd Banks announced he was working on a mixtape, V6. The full title was soon revealed, V6: The Gift, and Lloyd Banks got to work. Released back in July, Lloyd Banks heated the summer up with some of the best work of the summer. Several artists returned with new albums, such as Nas and Rick Ross, but Lloyd Banks had the streets.

V6: The Gift is full of bangers, as Lloyd Banks proves he can hold his own with any of the rappers in the game. Featuring the likes of Fabolous, Jadakiss, and ScHoolboy Q, V6 is easily a classic mixtape. Each track is enjoyable and Lloyd Banks challenges both himself and the featured artists on every song.

If there was a street soundtrack for the summer of 2012, Lloyd Banks’ V6: The Gift would serve that purpose.
