Had it not been for the efforts of Chris Lighty, chances are 50 Cent would not have risen to the heights he has over the past nine years. Much like the rest of the music industry, Chris Lighty took a bold risk when he took 50 Cent on as a client. Chris Lighty was serving as the manager of Ja Rule and lost him when 50 Cent joined his roster.

Ultimately, however, this union would be a major win for both Chris Lighty and 50 Cent, as the Vitamin Water deal soon landed $4.1 billion. 50 Cent would walk away with over $100 million, which put him on the same level as Jay-Z and Diddy. Meanwhile, Chris Lighty walked away with a large sum and soildifying his legacy.

Yesterday, Chris Lighty died of an apparent suicide. Over the past few hours, many of the biggest names in the media have given their condolences. For 50 Cent, the relationship is much closer than many other figures in the media. Many have been waiting for his official statement, which he delivered earlier this morning.

Read the entire statement below:

“Chris has been an important part of my business and personal growth for a decade,” said 50 Cent in a statement through his publicist. “He was a good friend and advisor who helped me develop as an artist and businessman. My prayers are with his family. He will be greatly missed.” – Billboard Biz via SOHH.com
