Even before he officially joined Young Money, Drake spoke on his admiration for the late songstress, Aaliyah. In 2009, Drake collaborated with Timbaland for the first time, earning the respect of the legend. The following year, Drake sampled Aaliyah for music off his Thank Me Later album.

In a short two years, Drake has transformed himself from a popular Toronto mixtape rapper into one of the biggest rappers in the game. Drake has reached very high levels of success, building a name for himself outside of Lil Wayne. With 2012 close to being over, the wait begins for the next Drake album.

Little information has been given about any new Drake release, but his name has been closely called alongside Aaliyah’s. Last week, rumors of Drake executive producing a posthumous album for Aaliyah were confirmed. At last week’s OVO Fest in Toronto, the popular rapper was cornered and he discussed the new project.
