Years ago, Jay-Z’s relationship with the NBA was established when he became a part-owner of the New Jersey Nets. Jay-Z had immediate plans of relocating the team to Brooklyn, his native home, in New York City. The move took longer than expected, but the Nets are preparing their first season in Brooklyn.
Jay-Z, in many ways, has become the face of the franchise. Earlier this year, Kanye West returned with his first new music since Watch the Throne. His comeback single, which was initially called “Theraflu,” mentioned Jay-Z’s role. Now involved with popular socialite, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West referenced her ex, who plays for the Nets.
This year, Jay-Z will have a much bigger impact on the NBA, as he will serve as the executive producer of NBA 2K13. The video game will be available on October 2, also the same day Kendrick Lamar is to release his debut album.
