Last year, Lupe Fiasco returned following a four-year hiatus, in part forced by his label, Atlantic Records. After hitting rock bottom in 2010, when his “Nothin’ on You” single with Bruno Mars was given to B.o.B., Lupe Fiasco began recording. Still facing opposition from his label, Lupe Fiasco’s fans stepped in to defend their emcee, landing him a release date for Lasers.

A week before Lasers was released, Lupe Fiasco revealed it was the worst album he ever put together. Lupe Fiasco said Atlantic Records forced him to make commercial songs. Still, the album was both a commercial and critical success. The album featured two breakout singles, “Words I Never Said” and “Out of My Head” with Trey Songz.

During this period of time, Lupe Fiasco revealed he had another album, which he hoped would be released before the end of the year. Throughout the remainder of 2011, Lupe Fiasco discussed his next album, Food & Liquor II. Last month, Lupe Fiasco began promoting this new album with the release of his new single, “Bitch Bad.”

Currently, Lupe Fiasco is making his media rounds, speaking with Jenny Boom Boom yesterday morning. During their interview, the conversation shifted to fellow Chicago rapper, Kanye West, who is featured on 2 Chainz’ new single, “Birthday Song.” An advocate of intellectual lyrics, Lupe Fiasco unsurprisingly admitted he was not a fan of the song. Lupe Fiasco said he wants to hear something new from hip hop, arguing that most of the songs are the same, including “Birthday Song.”

Lupe Fiasco also discussed his own new album, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1. Speaking on the content of the album, Lupe Fiasco revealed there are two parts to it. The first part is The Great American, which features Lupe Fiasco telling the American story from his perspective. The second part, however, is Lupe Fiasco’s Rap Album, which features him “straight rapping.”
