For the first time in nearly a decade, there is high interest in the Philadelphia hip hop scene and much of this credit goes to Meek Mill. Since 2011, Meek Mill has watched his fan base double and has watched his dreams come true. Meek Mill linked up with popular Miami rapper, Rick Ross, signed with Maybach Music, and has become one of hip hop’s biggest figures.

While Meek Mill enjoyed a strong debut run in 2011, the last Philadelphia artist to experience this type of success was Cassidy. In 2003, Cassidy signed with Full Surface, the label owned by Swizz Beatz. From 2003 until 2005, Cassidy was one of the biggest artists in the game. But, after Cassidy’s car accident, he found himself unable to reach his previous level of success.

Currently on the mixtape level, Cassidy has built significant buzz. But, Meek Mill is currently on top of Philadelphia in terms of popularity. This has not gone unnoticed by Cassidy, who retweeded several fans, who expressed disappointment in Meek Mill not reaching out to Cassidy before he got signed. Meek Mill noticed the tweet, replying with telling Cassidy to say it to his face and warning him to not get Twitter confused with real life. After removing the tweet, Meek Mill made a similar tweet the next morning, telling Cassidy to stop hating and focus on getting money.
