The 2012 hip hop landscape is noticably different from what it was in 2008, when Nas last released an album. After being out of the spotlight, save the brief period during the summer of 2011, Nas has returned more focused than ever. It was last summer when Nas revealed his Life is Good album.
Initially due for a 2011 release, Life is Good has become the most-discussed album of 2012. Through the music released from the album, Nas watched himself go from returning to relevance to becoming one of the biggest stars. In a rap game dominated by Maybach Music, Nas is showing his endurance, as he is a twenty-year veteran.
While his record sales will likely be lower, because of the changing landscape, Nas is arguably at the peak of his career. Last night, footage of Nas performing at the 2012 ESPYs leaked to the internet. Nas recently broke his silence to XXL about the performance.
Nas spoke on the event, saying the night was amazing to be around those sports figures. Saying they have always supported him, Nas said it was his time to support them. Continuing his discussion, Nas spoke on how impressed he was by Eric LeGrand and also Pat Summit.
Read Nas’ statement on Eric LeGrand and Pat Summit below:
“Eric LeGrand is one of the most courageous people I’ve ever heard speak,” Nas added in the statement to XXL. “He defines the words “never quit.” I was inspired last night. [Former Tennessee women’s basketball coach, who is now battling Alzheimer’s disease] Pat Summit was incredible as well. WOW!”
