Many felt Lil Wayne reached the peak of his career with Tha Carter II. At the time, he proclaimed to be the “best rapper alive.” Jay-Z coined the phrase, right before his retirement. Looking up to Jay-Z, Lil Wayne dubbed himself the heir apparent.
After making such a proclamation, many felt Lil Wayne would continue releasing new albums. Instead, Lil Wayne stopped releasing albums in favor of mixtapes. Though unorthodox, the method worked and Lil Wayne built a large underground fanbase.
In 2008, Lil Wayne returned with Tha Carter III and has provided a new album every year since. This year, Lil Wayne plans to return with I Am Not a Human Being 2. During his recent interview with MTV News, Lil Wayne discussed the new album.
