With his Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap, Ice T found a way to unite a number of hip hop artists. The documentary is now in theaters and Ice T finds himself making his media rounds. Nearly three decades ago, Ice T began his rap career, helping to solidify West Coast hip hop and introducing the world to gangsta rap.

Ice T quickly became “public enemy number one” with his harsh lyrics and then naming himself the Cop Killa. However, Ice T eventually toned things down and eventually portrayed the role of law enforcement. For well over a decade, Ice T has played in NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU,” gaining a new fan base with the role.

Much like many other rappers who have transitioned into acting, Ice T is still in touch with the hip hop community. The Art of Rap was only the latest project Ice T put together for hip hop and it has been met with strong reviews. Ice T recently spoke to Angie Martinez for Hot 97 about his documentary.
