Many names came to life in 2011, among those Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole. Initially a standalone artist, Kendrick Lamar soon found himself an Aftermath artist and the new artist of Dr. Dre. Since early 2009, J. Cole has been an understudy of Jay-Z, a rapper who many dream of having success like.

Clearly, the rap game has changed since Dr. Dre and Jay-Z were the “go-to guys” on the scene. During their respective runs, rappers rarely collaborated with rappers from other regions. Furthermore, the only rappers who worked with Southern rappers were other Southerners.

J. Cole has helped redefine exactly what a Southern rapper is. Given the way he sounds, partially due to his military background, J. Cole sounds more like a New York rapper. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole have been touted as two of the best new lyricists in the game.

The two decided, last year, they would come together to record a collaborative album. There has been a lot of discussion about this album actually being put together. Despite the chatter, Kendrick Lamar recently confirmed the new project would soon be put together and confirmed the music video for his “The Recipe” single with Dr. Dre also coming soon.
