Throughout 2011, Nicki Minaj promised fans she would soon return with a new album. It was almost immediately after the release of Pink Friday when Nicki Minaj fans began wanting the new album. Given the late 2010 release of Pink Friday, it seemed a long shot for her to release her follow-up in 2011. Late in the year, Nicki Minaj told fans her new album would be titled Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and would be released early in 2012.

Initially, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded was given a Valentine’s Day 2012 release date, but was eventually delayed until the spring. When the singles began leaking from the album, critics complained about Nicki Minaj going “pop.” Nicki Minaj has run into much opposition regarding her new album. Most recently, Nicki Minaj ran into problems with the personalities from Hot 97, regarding her no-show at Summer Jam 2012.

In the midst of all the controversy, Nicki Minaj has continued to sell records. Two months since the album has been released, Nicki Minaj has much to celebrate. The Young Money femcee has run into much opposition from critics and media outlets, yet she can still celebrate her album going gold when most rappers are fortunate to see their albums sell over 100,000 copies overall. Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded officially certified gold earlier today.
