Having spent over two decades in the game, Common has become known as one of the best to ever pick up a mic. Over the years, Common found a way to remain one of hip hop’s more popular rappers without compromising himself. Even when hip hop focused more on commercial topics, Common managed to remain popular.
Because he has been around so long, many have forgotten Common’s backstory, or never knew because of their relative young age. Common was one of the first rappers from Chicago to break out into the mainstream and have success. Due to his status in the game, Ice T reached out to Common to be in his Something From Nothing film.
During his segment with Something From Nothing, Common spoke on why he began rapping and those who have influenced him over the years.
