Obie Trice talks problems at Interscope Records and Eminem collaborations

A longtime home for hip hop music, Interscope Records has had trouble keeping the urban entertainers on their roster happy. The only hip hop artists who are not rumored to be leaving Interscope Records are Dr. Dre and Eminem. Due to Dr. Dre and Eminem, Interscope Records has released successful albums from many hip hop artists, including 50 Cent and his G-Unit movement and D12 and Obie Trice.

The only remaining G-Unit member on Interscope Records is 50 Cent, while D12’s roster continues to dwindle, and Obie Trice left Interscope Records three years ago. When Obie Trice left Shady/Interscope, rumors started about Obie Trice having issues with Eminem. During a recent conversation with Global Grind, Obie Trice revealed the problems were within himself.

Obie Trice said he lost favor with Jimmy Iovine when he missed media visits and his music was not accepted for various reasons. In 2006, Obie Trice landed Akon, who was very popular at the time, for his single, “Snitch.” But, 2006 was the year when “snitching” was a hot-button topic, leading to MTV not playing the video. Because Eminem, who had been in hiatus for five years, was not making appearances on either BET or MTV, his music was not played on either network and this is what led to Obie taking matters into his own hands.

No longer a Shady Records artist, Obie Trice and Eminem are still good friends. Eminem collaborated with Obie Trice on Bottoms Up on the popular single, “Richard.” Speaking on his collaborations with Eminem, Obie Trice said he feels as if he killed Eminem on each track.
