Diggy Simmons disses J. Cole on “What You Say to Me?”

There has been much hype surrounding Diggy Simmons, since he decided to embark on a career in rap music. Diggy Simmons is the son of Rev Run, of Run-DMC, and the nephew of Russell Simmons, one of the most-acclaimed hip hop businessmen ever. With this surrounding him, many were ready to count Diggy Simmons out before ever hearing him rap.

Diggy Simmons ignored this and began making the music people wanted to hear, creating a lane for himself outside of his last name. While fans have overlooked Diggy Simmons parentage, it has been difficult for many industry insiders to. Whether in a negative or positive way, comparisons are going to be made.

No matter whose son he is, Diggy Simmons is a part of an influx of new, successful, rappers to emerge to a large following. Another artist who has made a name for himself in the wake of his debut album has been J. Cole. A little over a month ago, J. Cole, primarily a peaceful rapper, much like Diggy, released a track, “Grew Up Fast.”

The “Grew Up Fast” track contains a line, in which J. Cole name-drops the Simmons family, comparing himself to Biggie, while comparing another to Diggy Simmons, calling the other inferior. The song could have possibly found its way to Diggy Simmons, as his new track, “What You Say to Me,” appears to be in response to J. Cole’s track. Below are both J. Cole’s “Grew Up Fast” and Diggy Simmons’ “What You Say to Me.”
