After exploding onto the hip hop scene in 2010, fans were left wanting more when the singles from Drake’s debut album, Take Care, faded away. Aside from his collaborations, there was no new music from the Young Money rapper in 2011. However, during the spring season, all of this changed with the release of “Marvin’s Room.” While Drake croons throughout the song, it is easily an anthem for men with the line “fuck that nigga that you love so much.”

Along with the crude chorus, the song is noted for a phone conversation, which takes place at the end of the song. Last month, the female voice on the phone introduced herself to the public as Ericka Lee, a girlfriend of Drake’s at the time. She said she co-wrote the song and provided vocals, but was not compensated for her work. Lee claimed a contract was signed, but when she called, looking for her royalties, Drake’s number changed and all ties were severed.

Drake’s spokesperson denied the case from Ericka Lee and now Drake has filed a countersuit, which tells his side of the story. The countersuit states Drake never promised to compensate Lee for her work and she consented the use of her voice with no compensation. Ericka Lee claimed she and Drake had a romantic relationship, which turned sour when Drake threatened her after she filed the lawsuit. Drake’s counter-claim also denies his relationship with Lee and him threatening her.
