There has been a lot of discussion about Def Jam. The iconic record label has been slumping for years. Still, there are a lot of new, talented, artists on the Def Jam roster, including Big Sean and YG. However, outside of Rick Ross, who has one foot out the door with his Maybach Music/Warner Bros. deal, Kanye West, and 2 Chainz, the label is struggling. Many of the longtime artists are leaving the label.

Redman has worked closely with Def Jam artists, throughout his career. While his crew, Wu-Tang Clan, has been signed with Loud Records, Method Man, Redman’s longtime partner, spent his solo career with Def Jam. But, Method Man is considering another label to release his next solo album. At the time when Method Man was releasing hit records, Def Jam was on top.

The fall of Def Jam has perplexed many, Redman was one of the artists who had a front-row seat to see how iconic the record label was and is sad to see how the label has fallen. Irv Gotti revealed Def Jam does not have a CEO and he has sparked the debates about the fall of the label. Redman recently spoke on the issues involving the Def Jam label with “The Combat Jack Show” on PNC Radio.
