Tyga’s “Careless World” album successful, despite Set-backs

Due to most rappers being young, black, men, the black community is often demanding rappers do more to uplift the community. While hip hop has respect for the leaders of the black community, tensions often arise. In 2008, Lil Wayne used the final track of Tha Carter III as a sounding-board, as he ranted on civil rights leader, Al Sharpton. The comments Lil Wayne made were embraced by the youth and provoked anger from the older people.

Tyga thought he was doing the right thing when he included a sample of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his Careless World: Rise of the Last King. February, Black History Month, is usually a time when all facets of the black community are able to get along, enjoying each other’s company. This was not the case in 2012, as February opened with “Soul Train” creator, Don Cornelius, committing suicide. Only days later, the legendary Whitney Houston died.

With his Carless World album set for a February 21 release, Tyga decided to include a sample of the most-recognized figure in Black History. But, the sample was not cleared and Tyga’s album was pulled off shelves in major retail outlets, only hours after initially being placed on shelves. Still, the album has managed to sell relatively well and Tyga continues to dominate with his “Rack City” single. Last night, the official video of the remix was released to the internet. Despite the push-backs and then the recall of his album, Tyga has managed to defy the odds and is now one of the most-discussed rappers in the game.
