Lil Wayne was determined to translate his mixtape success to commercial success during the summer of 2008 when he released Tha Carter III. By the time Lil Wayne prepared to record this album, he no longer needed the support of “big names.” At this point, Lil Wayne established himself as one of the biggest names in the game. Now, Lil Wayne’s focus was on making stars.
With the first two singles from Tha Carter III, Lil Wayne did just that, as he helped the late Static Major gain publicity through the success of “Lollipop” and the music video. Lil Wayne turned the Atlanta-based producer, Bangladesh, into a household name through the success of “A Milli.” When the single took off, so did Bangladesh’s career.
Despite this, Bangladesh revealed his frustration with Cash Money Records, revealing he was never paid for his work, in 2010. Following a minor public dispute, Bangladesh was recruited by Lil Wayne to make another beat. The beat ended up being for “6 Foot, 7 Foot,” which became a hit. Ironically, Bangladesh revealed he was not paid for that work, either, but said he had no beef.
Recently, Bangladesh discussed his relationship with Cash Money Records with an interview with Hip-Hop Wired. Bangladesh said his issues with Cash Money Records are now in the past. Revealing he has a production album in the works, Bangladesh said Birdman will be featured on the track, “Phantom of the Opera,” with 2 Chainz. Bangladesh said he handled his situation like a “G” and he was compensated for his work, leading to many others following his lead.
