Dasha Randall talks Business, Hair Styles, and the Future

By The Voice
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

On his American Gangster album, Jay-Z raps about being self-made and acquiring assets in an effort to become one’s own boss. While it is unclear if Dasha Randall listens to Jay-Z, it is abundantly clear she is self-made and all about business. At the age of nineteen years old, Randall started her own business and it has become very successful, having been in business over the past eight years.

Dasha Randall has done the impossible, in the eyes of many. At a young age, she became a business leader and this was during the time when the economic downturn intially began. Despite her youth, Randall has still managed to be highly successful and she is focused on expansion. With one of her mottos being “don’t start something you don’t intend to finish,” Randall has become one of the biggest business figures in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

In the eyes of many, Dasha’s All Natural Hair Salon, is one of the best hair salons in not only Myrtle Beach, but in the entire Myrtle Beach metropolitan area. While Dasha Randall is pleased with the accolades, this has not gotten in the way of her wanting to achieve more. Currently, Dasha Randall is focused on her future, which is obviously very bright.

Recently, Dasha Randall discussed her business ventures and her rise with Hip Hop Vibe.

When did you launch Dasha’s All Natural Hair Salon?
I launched Dasha’s All Natural Hair Salon in 2003 at the age of 19.

How much do you charge for your services?
I charge different prices. Depends on the service.

Which designs do you consider most popular?
The most popular hair designs on the market, I feel, right now is anything natural. When natural hair hit the scene, a lot of people weren’t feeling it. Afros and fades on women were not popular on demand because straight hair was how the world classified you as beautiful. Now its not a surpise that our Black is beautiful.

Do you consider your styles as artwork?
All of my hairstyles are artwork. They are the canvas and im the artist.

What inspired you to open your own business?
I watched andworked with different business owners and I felt it was my time. Plus it looked easy.

Was it a goal for you to have your own salon, or something you decided to do after you became established?
It was definately a goal to open my first shop. I never imagined going in business at such a young age. I told myself i would open my first business at age 30.

How do you handle being in such a competitive market?
The market is competitive, but I consider my style different because I cater to all natural hair.

How do you deal with the daily pressures of owning and operating a business?
There is no pressure in running a business when you love what you do. I face obstacles and challenges but with God nothing is too big.

What advice would you offer those who are trying to enter own their own business, of any kind?
If you are going into your own business, surround yourself around business-minded people. The worst thing a person who is going into business could do is surround their self around people who don’t think like them. Make sure it is your passion and dont start something you are not willing to finish.
