Last year, while Lil Wayne was in prison, Drake announced he and Weezy would release an album together, upon his return. Months later, Jay-Z and Kanye West announced their collaborative album, Watch the Throne. When asked about their inspiration for the album, Drake jokingly accused them of taking the concept from he and Lil Wayne.

Lil Wayne has been among the most-active rappers in the game for years. Upon getting out of prison, Lil Wayne began working on his own Tha Carter IV, an album with Birdman, his long-awaited album with Juelz Santana, and his album with Lloyd. Birdman discussed the ongoings of Cash Money Records and said the Lil Wayne/Drake album would come once those projects were completed.

Over the course of this year, Lil Wayne also added Rebirth 2, We Are Young Money 2, and two additional albums to his completion list. Meanwhile, Drake has been steadily putting together new tracks for his upcoming Take Care album. Ever since “Aston Martin Music,” Drake and Rick Ross have been working closely together. Rick Ross featured Drake on “Made Men,” the promotional single off his upcoming God Forgives, I Don’t album. The two, alongside Lil Wayne, also came together on DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One.”

With Lil Wayne having his hand in so many pots, Drake and Rick Ross have begun working closer and closer. While Rick Ross is busy, he is making his rounds on his projects. Recently, Drake announced he was working on a mixtape called You Only Live Once and he reached out to Rick Ross for ideas. Their joining forces has led to Drake considering giving half of the mixtape to Rick Ross and making it their first official release together. Meanwhile, with all the projects Lil Wayne is working on, Drake revealed their collaborative album has been pushed back and likely will never be released.
