In 2008, Wale signed with Interscope Records and released his debut album, Attention Deficit, the following year. Aside from the Interscope deal, Wale had a management deal with Roc Nation.
Wale would leave Interscope during the summer of 2010. While looking for a new label, Wale made high profile collaborations with rising stars. Along the way, Rick Ross became a major fan of the DC rapper.
Rick Ross launched his Maybach Music label in 2008 and has been rounding out the roster. In the summer of 2010, Ross expressed interest in signing Wale. Later that year, Rick Ross made a similar statement.
Last month, Rick Ross announced he had signed Wale to the label. Despite the announcement, the deal was not official. Wale still had to finish his paperwork with Interscope Records. Now, with the paperwork done, Wale is free to sign with another label. Obviously, Wale’s decision was to sign with Maybach Music, while he still may have some sort of obligation to Interscope Records.
