Nicki Minaj goes platinum with “Pink Friday”

Not even a week into the New Year and Nicki Minaj is already making new headlines. The New York femcee is back in the news on a positive note. She burst onto the scene with popular verses on songs from Usher and Ludacris. The stage was set for her debut.

During the late winter of 2010, she released her own single, “Massive Attack.” The song was only released as a promotional single. But, right before the spring, Nicki Minaj released her first official single. “Your Love” became one of the biggest hits of the summer.

Nicki Minaj’s dominance continued well into the fall with her next single, “Right Thru Me.” Much like her previous single, it, too, was a big hit for Nicki. The best part of “Right Thru Me” was that it was released right as she prepared to release Pink Friday. Having a current single out helped as she went against Kanye West and Lloyd Banks.

Now, a little over a month after she went against the two veterans, Nicki Minaj can officially celebrate. She has joined the two rappers in the platinum club. Her debut album, Pink Friday, joins Drake’s debut album as another platinum release under the Young Money label.
